Launched at the height of the AIDS epidemic in Malawi, our Tisungane Clinic has dramatically increased access to HIV treatment and care for people living in the city of Zomba and the surrounding communities. Since its inception in 2004, more than 23,000 patients have started lifesaving HIV treatment at our flagship clinic.
Established in partnership with Malawi’s Ministry of Health, our Tisungane Clinic is a tertiary health facility that provides HIV treatment and prevention services and handles complex HIV-related conditions. The clinic is the site for an array of health care innovations including the first Teen Club for HIV+ teens in Southern Malawi, the first dedicated clinic for HIV+ health workers in Malawi and an Expert Client program.
In addition to delivering care at our Tisungane Clinic, Dignitas strengthens HIV-related services at 174 health facilities throughout Malawi’s southeast region, which has a population of more than 3.1 million people. As a result, we have helped more than 272,000 people start lifesaving HIV treatment since 2004.
