One day can change the world. That’s the vision for the Give a Day campaign that is happening in workplaces and communities across Canada today, World AIDS Day.
This Canadian grassroots response to the global HIV epidemic started in 2004 as a challenge to give one day’s pay on December 1st to stand in solidarity with people affected by HIV in sub-Saharan Africa.
To date, more than 4.5 million dollars has been raised to support the lifesaving work of Dignitas International and The Stephen Lewis Foundation. With championing and sponsorship from both the medical and legal communities, essential treatment, care and support are being delivered to the people who need it most.
We’ve seen incredible progress since the height of the HIV epidemic but there is still a long way to go to ensure that everyone who needs care is able to access it. UNAIDS estimates that there are still 15.7 million people living with HIV who are not on life saving treatment.
In a lead up to World AIDS Day, representatives from both Dignitas and the Stephen Lewis Foundation visited five supporting law firms over the past two weeks to provide an update the impact that the Give a Day campaign is having for families and communities.
There is still time to participate in the Give a Day campaign. Use our calculator to determine what a day’s pay looks like for you and make a lifesaving gift to Dignitas this World AIDS Day.Make a Donation
