Day 8 & 9 – A River Runs Through It
After several hours the road suddenly dropped and we had an amazing view of the Pangane river mouth. This is another historical slave trading town and we had to cross with a small but new ferry. We had our first puncture of the trip at this point, but it was a pleasant stop next to the river to repair it and have some amazing fresh tanga yoghurt.
A final 20km led to the beach paradise of Peponi camp.
Day 10 – Champagne Wishes and Coastal Dreams
Day 11 – Postcard Perfect
Smoothies around the pool…camping under the coconuts…it’s not all hardship!!! 20km from the Kenyan border. We will stay tonight at a postcard perfect beach spot.
Day 12 – Kickin’ it on the coast of Kenya
Beautiful stop last night. Slept out in the open. But there was rain this morning so it was a very muddy start.
Day 14 – The road ahead
Today we proceeded to Diani beach, about 35 km from Mombasa. This is a major resort area of Kenya…I hit problems when three spokes broke, probably from the weight of the pannier bags. We are getting them fixed at a local bike mechanic, and if all goes well, we should arrive in Mombasa tomorrow.
Day 16 – All’s well that ends well
We arrived in Mombasa at 8:30AM on Sunday after a restful day at Diani Beach. We had a few minutes to see historical Fort Jesus and the old town before heading on a bus to Nairobi where we will sleep tonight.
Thus ends our amazing tour. We both loved it. In spite of the distance we only had one puncture, three broken spokes and one stubbed toe!
